When you’re running an agency, or really any business for that matter, it’s almost always mid to high-level stress. Which is why you NEED to think about your strategies and execution before acting.

The business is busy, and it consumes your time.

  • You’re always working on deadlines.
  • You always have clients that are waiting on you.
  • You always have projects moving.
  • You always have people doing things.
  • You have things to pay for.
  • There’s a lot to do and a lot to keep in mind.

What ends up happening is you spend a lot of time doing everything. You wake up in the morning, you check your emails, you talk to your project managers, you talk to developers, you talk to clients, you sell your stuff, you do your job, but what you really need to think about doing. If you’re not already doing this, you need to take some time to think.

Think about the business.

What I do is really simple. I go for a walk.

I walk with either one of my project managers, my dog, just myself, or when I can, the best is I walk is with my girlfriend. She also happens to work with me, which is a huge advantage. We talk about what’s going on in the business, how things are going, what’s happening, our goals, how are we getting there, what is the process, what is the next thing that needs to be done.

Proactivity

I think this may be one of the best uses of my time as a leader in the business. The time to bounce ideas off of someone else who understands what they’re doing and can give you really good, honest feedback about your business and about your goals and whether you’re doing the right things is so critical. Some of the best, biggest changes that I’ve made in my business have been because of those walks. This is because I was able to have that time to think and then do so I could be proactive instead of reactive.

So get your shoes on, open the door, go for a walk, and think about your busiess. It’ll do you some good anyway.
